One window in town, and one trailer that drives to wherever you are.

Hand-dipped ice cream in Richmond. Most evenings we are at the window. Some evenings the window is dark because the trailer is parked at a ball field in Lawson or a wedding reception outside Hardin, and that is the single thing people get wrong about us, so it is written at the top of the page instead of the bottom.

This week: window open Wednesday through Sunday. Trailer out Friday evening, back Saturday.

How far the trailer goes

Thirty-five miles from the window, no delivery fee. Past that we charge mileage, and past sixty we are probably not the right call.

Service map A schematic map centered on Richmond, Missouri, with a dashed circle showing a thirty-five mile no-fee radius that reaches Lawson, Orrick, Hardin, Excelsior Springs and Lexington. 35 miles Richmond the window Lawson Orrick Hardin Excelsior Springs Lexington

Inside the dashed line there is no travel charge. Kansas City proper, Liberty and Kearney are all outside it and cost $1.75 a mile from the window and back.

What is in the case

Always there

Twelve tubs never come out of the case, because taking one out starts an argument. Vanilla bean, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry, cookies and cream, mint chip, cookie dough, black walnut, rocky road, orange sherbet, peach, and the salted caramel that outsells everything except vanilla.

Rotating, four at a time

The other four spots turn over every couple of weeks and follow whatever is actually ripe or actually in season. In summer that means blackberry cobbler when the berries come in off Highway 10, sweet corn for about eleven days in August that people either love or refuse to discuss, and lemon icebox from the first hot week to the last. Fall brings apple butter, pumpkin, and a maple bacon we keep saying we will stop making.

Not ice cream

Root beer floats made with bottled root beer, not fountain. Shakes and malts in three sizes. Banana splits that take a while, so order them before the line builds. Dole soft serve in summer for the people who cannot do dairy, and it is not an afterthought, it is genuinely good.

Single scoop $3.75. Double $5.50. Pints to go $8. Quarts $14. Shakes $6.25.

Booking the trailer

Ball tournaments, weddings, company picnics, church suppers, grand openings and one funeral, which turned out to be the right call. Here is everything you would otherwise have to ask for in a message thread.

What it costs
$450 for the first two hours, $150 an hour after that. That covers the trailer, two people working it, and unlimited servings for up to 150 guests. Over 150 it is $2.75 a head past the count.
What we need on site
A level spot about 20 feet by 12 feet, and either a standard 20 amp outlet within 100 feet or room for our generator. The generator adds $40 and is louder than you want next to a wedding toast, so the outlet is worth finding.
How many flavors travel
Eight, and you pick them. Most people take six from the always list and two rotating. Tell us fourteen days out.
To hold a date
$150 deposit, applied to the balance. Dates in May, June and September go first because of graduations and weddings. Saturday evenings in those months are usually spoken for by February.
Weather
We serve in rain. We do not serve in lightning, and if that ends the event early you are billed for the hours we actually served plus the deposit.
Cancelling
More than fourteen days out, the deposit moves to another date. Inside fourteen days it stays with us, because that Saturday was turned down for somebody else.
